Gaza’s Health Ministry is appealing to the world for intervention to save the hospitals in northern Gaza under siege by Israeli forces.
“BREAKING: The Ministry of Health in Gaza appeals to the world for immediate intervention to save the hospitals in northern Gaza from collapse due to the ongoing 15-day blockade and the continuous targeting of medical staff by Israel. But will the world listen?” wrote user Khalissee on X. The post included a video clip of Dr. Mohammad Salama, the head of the neonatal intensive care unit at the Al-Helal Al-Emirati Maternity Hospital, giving a statement during a press conference.
“The provinces of the north in the Northern Gaza Strip are being exterminated. The healthcare system is at the mercy of genocide and destruction. Our patients and injured are receiving no treatment and are dying without any intervention. We are calling on everyone save the northern Gaza Strip before it’s too late,” Salama said. “The Israeli occupation is destroying the provinces of the northern Gaza Strip in such a way so nothing will remain of it tomorrow. They are killing our people with massacres and genocide. Hospitals are unable to provide any services to so many mass casualties and martyrs,” continued Salama.
“Our hospitals do not have the capacity for all the wounded. The intensive care units are full of those who are severely wounded. And we are working on a system of preference and priority. The pediatric nursery units are full and there is no room for any newborns or premature births. And any newborn who is in need of [healthcare] service is postponed to a later time. And some of the Caesareans [C-Section] have been postponed until there is room.”
Meanwhile, at least three partially functioning hospitals treating severely wounded patients and sheltering thousands of displaced Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza were targeted by Israel as the siege on Jabalia entered its third week.
Al Jazeera correspondents have reported that Israeli forces bombed al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia early on Saturday, Oct. 19, and also bombarded Kamal Adwan and the Indonesian hospitals in Beit Lahiya on the same day.
One person was confirmed dead and many others were wounded in the attack at the entrance of the laboratory of Kamal Adwan Hospital according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The Palestinian official news agency WAFA said on Saturday that at least 11 people were killed in another Israeli strike on central Gaza’s Maghazi refugee camp while adding that there are still missing people under the rubble.
Authorities reported on Saturday that at least 67 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli forces across Gaza in the last 24 hours.
